PACE Program Week 5

          This is the last week we having PACE program. This week, the students from both Convent Sentul and Methodist Sentul is going to our campus which is Taylor’s University lakeside campus. There are an event that participate by our lecturer who is Ms. Rabiah and Ms. Caroline and all PACE students. This event held from 10 am to 4 pm which have two session which morning session is for students from Convent Sentul and afternoon session for students from Methodist Sentul. In the morning opening ceremony, some of our course mates who taking PACE program have singing performance for all the guests and performance. After that, the students from Convent Sentul have campus tour, skill building and campus exploration. My group is participating in the next section which is lunch break. There will be all the guests and students from Convent Sentul and Methodist Sentul having lunch in Temptation restaurant which organize by students who majoring in culinary arts. We stand by and get prepared at about 1 PM in Temptation. When they arrive, they queue up and wait for us to serve them so that it would be faster and efficient. Most of them are so clever and good in manners while we serve them. One of the funny things that I found out is they really eat in a quite big portion maybe because they are too tired and enjoy the activities prepared by our friends. They have one hour for them to enjoy their meals. After lunch, the students from Convent Sentul is going back to their school and the students from Methodist Sentul would be having some activities prepared by our course mates. The students from Methodist Sentul are going to have activities such as campus tour, skills building and campus exploration same as morning session but prepared by different people. After the activities, there are also closing ceremony and it ends up our PACE program successfully. Although we only having PACE program for five weeks, it is short but not only the students can learning something from us, I also can learn something from the program which the students are very appreciate for our help and our effort is work for them. Teachers may not help and take care for everyone in the schools since they have so many students and in PACE program, we are one or two people mentoring every one of them and giving out full attention on them. Therefore, they can be more focus on their studies and there is someone who can help them to solve their problem immediately. Therefore, PACE program is really a meaningful program which we can get happiness on helping others.

PACE Program Week 4

          This is the fourth week that I am having PACE program with my course mates. This week would be our last week going to Methodist Sentul and also the last week that we mentoring them but not the last time we meet them because they are going to have campus tour next Tuesday, 4^th of November in my campus which is Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.

          Since last time my mentee didn’t attend the class, so I hope to meet him since this is the last time for me to mentor him. This week, we are going to help them in revision for English Language since they are having English exam on the next day. When we arrived, we wait for the mentees for a long time. This time, my mentee attended the class but still I am not the one who mentoring him because all of the student are going to the class so one people will be going to mentor one people and me and Janet was mentoring Kian Weng at the first time. So this time I am mentoring another Chinese student called Kian Seng. Although this is the first time I mentor him but this is the second time I meet him. The situation of Kian Seng is same with Kian Weng which they are very good in Mathematics but poor in English. But Kian Seng are more talkative than Kian Weng, therefore I can talk more with him and know more about his standard and their school. Their teacher gave them a set of paper which is similar to their exam paper. Through mentoring, it reminds me about my high school exam life while doing the pre exam paper. I teach him the skills of answering the exam paper because he is unable to answer and he just simply write something in his previous exam. Therefore, I hope that the skills that I teach him is helpful and he could get a better result in the exam. Through mentoring Kian Seng, I found that actually he has the basic of English but not very well in vocabularies and pronunciations. This is the last week we mentoring them, although we mentor them not a very long time but I hope that our efforts are work and useful in their future studies.

PACE Program Week 3

           In week 3, we did not go to the Methodist Sentul so we have a meeting in the classroom to discuss about the idea of organizing an event for the students for both Convent Sentul and Methodist Sentul students who will be coming to Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus on 4^th of November. After we do the reflective for the Epic Homes Workshop and mark our attendance, Ms. Rabiah explain to us what will we have to do on that day, then each group will be in charge in at least one session to assist the event goes fluently. The event included opening ceremony to welcome the guests and students from both Methodist Sentul and Convent Sentul. There will also have campus tour, skill building and campus exploration in different session for these two groups of people to let them know more about Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus and provide them more skill so that they are able to communicate well with others, examination skills and so on. The most important is to let them enjoy and feel happy of having tour in our campus.

        After explaining what will be held in the campus on 4^th of November, then all of the groups choose at least a session to participate. Our group chose to participate in lunch break session and other group will be participate in other sessions. After choosing our job, we would have about two weeks to prepare the things. After dividing our job, all of the people in our section discuss about the activities, idea, gifts and so on to make the event more joyful so that the students from both Methodist Sentul and Convent Sentul will enjoy and satisfy about the event that prepared by us. Since we are the only group that participate in lunch session, so we will be the only group to decide that. Therefore, we discuss together and ask Ms. Rabiah for the opinion. We suggested to book a section at the food court and their meals from one of the stalls or at the Temptation which is a restaurant that organized by the culinary arts student. Therefore after we discuss, we go to the management and ask for the details.
